Tyler & Sarah are getting married on May 2nd, and I couldn't be more exited to get the summer wedding season of 2015 going!
Tyler and I met in January 2007. We actually knew of each other but we didn't "know" each other. We were both born and raised in Winfield and actually met in high school. I was a senior and he was a junior. I was offering to drive some friends to Newton to watch a basketball game one night and a mutual friend invited Tyler. We sat beside each other during the game and had some of the best conversations. We hung out a few times (with friends) over the next few weeks and eventually he got the courage to ask me to hang out with just him.
The hardest time of our relationship was the following August when I moved to Wichita for school and he finished high school in Winfield. I would drive back and forth A LOT. As soon as he graduated, he moved to Wichita with me. The rest is pretty much history.
Our relationship isn't like most. We have never rushed anything. I think from the beginning we both kinda knew that this was it. In fact, he waited 6 and a half years before proposing. And the proposal was so amazing, I would have waited another 6 and half years for that moment...
Every year my family spends a long weekend at Table Rock Lake. And every year we all get out of our swimsuits, "dress up", and take family pictures on our boat at sunset. This particular year felt no different than any other. We ate dinner and began to gather everything we would need for our ride. My mom, sister, nephew, and I went down to the dock while the guys (dad, brother in law, and Tyler) finished packing the coolers. I was waiting (impatiently) at the dock when my dad and brother in law came down without Tyler. I was pretty annoyed that it was taking SO long to get going so I sat down in a chair on the dock and admired the sun setting over the calm water. That's when I noticed a boat coming toward our dock. I was confused because our dock sits in a small cove so most boats go around instead of directly at us. The closer the boat got, the more I thought the guy on the boat looked like Tyler. A few seconds later I realized that it WAS Tyler. He was pulling up to our dock with my best friend and her husband (his best friend). It wasn't until the boat got close enough that I could hear John Mayer (my ALL TIME favorite artist) through the speakers and it hit me that this was it. This was our moment. As the pulled up the dock, I wanted on that boat so bad! In fact, I tried to get on before the boat stopped and Tyler had to tell me to wait until it was stopped! Ha! When I FINALLY got on the boat, he got down on one knee, said the sweetest words, and asked me to marry him. And then he stopped and told me that Nick was playing the wrong song! Haha! I didn't care though. It was the most amazing moment of my life. I would give anything to go back to that time. Luckily....I have VIDEO! It is just a home video so don't go critiquing it. Ha! Feel free to check it out...
We have been engaged for almost 2 years now. I cannot believe the time is almost here. Seems unreal.
The hard part about trying to explain our relationship is that we have always just kept it real. We aren't a fairy tale. We are real people who have found a big piece of our puzzle. We love each other more than we can even express. I can't imagine my life without him. He is truly my best friend and knows me better than any one else in this world. He just gets me. He understand me and all my quirks. He is incredibly supportive in anything and everything I do. Neither one of us is perfect. In fact, we are both far from it. But our imperfections go well together. If that makes any sense. As I'm sure you know, relationships are hard work. They are a lot of compromise and sacrifice. They take a lot of forgiveness and patience. We have both promised ourselves that we would stay true to who we really are. There is Tyler, there is Sarah, and there is Tyler and Sarah. We are both still individuals who have chosen to share ourselves with one another.
It is SO awesome that they have their proposal on video! I wish you both the best and cannot wait to spend your wedding day with you both!
